With interesting games based on superheroes and films flooding the market, involving latest technology, the gaming scenario has witnessed a huge turnaround. While games like Roadrash, FIFA and Pinball have been an integral part of everyone’s growing up years, the transition from computer to mobile games in recent years has only fuelled the craze for gaming not only amongst the youngsters, but also the older generation who have been caught in the gaming fever. The popularity of social media has only aided this desire to be a part of the gaming league.

When the Angry Birds game was introduced in 2009, it took some time for the game to gain popularity. It became a rage about two years back, with people wearing angry birds T-shirt and using other parapharnelia like key chains, caps, cups, stationery and even an entire range of school gear were introduced to encash on its popularity. However, with the introduction of new games like Candy Crush Saga, Flappy Birds, and Quiz Up storming the market, Angry Birds seems to have lost its tempo.
The game gained in popularity after the 2011 American 3D computer animated musical adventure comedy, Rio released and the makers tied-up with Angry Birds to release a special edition. The popularity of the game was a result of the combination of addictive gameplay, comical style and the fact that it is free for android and iOS users; it cost as low as `55. With over two billion downloads, including both regular and special editions across all platforms, the franchise holds the record of being the most popular game.
Candy Crush Saga has surpassed Farmville 2 as the most popular game on Facebook, with 46 million average users. It’s probably the colourful world of candies and the addiction of scoring points on it, that have caught the game enthusiasts’ fancy. According to statistics logged on February 7, 2014, Candy Crush Saga has become the most popular app on Facebook with more than 61 million likes on its application page.
Flappy birds, another of the popular game with enthusiasts, uses a side-scrolling format. The player controls a bird attempting to fly between rows of green pipes without actually coming into contact with them. The developer created the game over several days, using a bird protagonist which was designed for a game in 2012. Although the game was released on May 24, 2013, it zoomed on the popularity charts in early 2014.
The world’s largest trivia game, Quizup is the youngest entrant in the gaming field. It was released for android users on March 6, 2014 and created immense buzz within a very short span of time. It is a speed-based game and what attracts the player are the brainstorming sessions. The player who answers the fastest receives more points. Each round consists of multiple choice question with four answers.
To keep the player engrossed, each edition of the games have some interesting elements that sets them apart from the previous one. The games can be downloaded free by users across all applications. With constant upgradation and innovation, the gaming fever is expected to only increase by leaps-and-bounds.
