It has been confirmed from a source close to Moushumi Chatterjee that the actress has indeed been approached to play a pivotal role in Shoojit Sircar’s Piku and that she is interested in doing the project. “Shoojit met her a few days back and narrated the story of Piku to her. She liked it and is now reading the script. But she is not opposite Amitabh Bachchan. She is one of the four pivotal characters in the films that also includes Irrfan and Deepika Padukone,” said the source.
Chatterjee who started her acting career after marriage with Balika Badhu in 1967 is known for her impish smile and a sunny demeanour. She is still remembered for films like Anuraag in which she played a blind girl, as a rape survivor in Roti Kapda Aur Makaan, her comic act in Angoor, and as Sunny Deol’s sister-in-law in Ghayal. Chatterjee’s last outing was the 2013 Bengali film Goynar Baksho in which she played a ghost.
