The inspirational track from the recently released Mary Kom, Salaam India, has been chosen as the official anthem at the Asian Games 2014, set to be held in South Korea from September 19 to October 4. Music composer Shivamm Pathak, who has worked on this track, was elated as he confirmed the news. “The moment this news broke to me, I just couldn’t stop smiling. I knew Salaam India was destined for bigger things and there can’t be a bigger honour than this. I am told Mary Kom would be taking part in the Games and if my song can inspire her to win another boxing medal, that would be awesome,” he stated.
Talking about how he bagged this project, Pathak mentioned that he met producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali a year and a half ago and was told to come up with a patriotic song. He created a blend of energetic and fusion music, while adding a few classical and rock beats. When Bhansali heard the song, he liked it so much that he offered to add another composition, Sukoon mila, to the film. Talking about the recording, Pathak stated, “It was quite an experience to work with Vishal sir (Dadlani) and Salim sir (Merchant). We recorded the number in just two hours.”
Post Mary Kom, Pathak will be working as a music composer on director Ashwini Dhir’s next.
