Actor Achint Kaur will soon be seen on the small screen in the role of a sophisticated mom-in-law in Zee TV’s upcoming show, Jamai Raja. After a hiatus of almost two-and-a-half years, she was last seen in a powerful role as Ladai Sarkar in Jhansi Ki Rani on the same channel. The deciding factor for the actress to take up this role, she says is because she gets a chance to play and act her age.
“I am 43 and a mother to a 21-year-old. I would not have done a show in which I was required to look old and dress like a grand-mom, but this one is completely fine as the age of my daughter (played by Nia Sharma) is almost the same as my real-life kid. The look is also not over-the-top. It is similar to how I would look in real life,” says Achint, who will be seen as a jewellery designer from South Mumbai.
Since the last two-and-a-half decade, Achint has been a part of some of the most prestigious projects on TV that included shows like Banegi Apni Baat, Saaya, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi among others. She however wishes for the good old days of TV to come back once again.
Although, there’s a lot of talk about TV evolving by the day, the actor, who has dabbled in Pakistani TV shows and has also been doing a lot of theatre thinks otherwise. “In order to make money, we have gone back to a time that existed 50 years ago. The shows are repetitive and there is hardly any innovation with content. We need to change. If nothing else, we should bring back some of the old, content-driven shows to test waters and audience reaction.”
It was solely for this reason that Achint started exploring other avenues like theatre and is also interested in doing films. She was seen in a cameo in 2 States, and is looking forward to more such projects.
