Eros International to release Mahesh Babu-starrer Aagadu on September 19

Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu’s upcoming film Aagadu is much looked forward to and the film is now set to hit the theatres on September 19. Eros International Media Limited recently announced its collaboration with 14 Reels Entertainment to release the film. Also starring Tamanna Bhatia, with Sonu Sood as the primary antagonist and Shruti Haasan in a special dance number, it is to release across 2000 screens in four south Indian languages; Telugu with the dubbed versions in Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam.
The film, which has music by S. Tharman, marks director Srinu Vaitla’s second association with Mahesh Babu,. Their Dookudu was one of the biggest hits of Telugu cinema.
Meanwhile Eros Music forayed into Tamil music with the release of the sound track of A.R. Murugadoss’ Kaththi starring Illaya Dhalapathy Vijay. Eros Music will release the sound track of this upcoming action thriller on September 18. The film has music composed by Anirudh Ravichander.
Speaking on the announcement, Soundarya A Rajinikanth, Director – Creative & Head Eros Digital for South India, said, “We are very excited to associate with the Kaththi team to release the music of this much awaited film. This move marks Eros’ debut in the Tamil music market and what can be more auspicious than joining hands with the stalwarts of Tamil cinema — Murugadoss, Vijay sir and youth icon Anirudh. With this move, we are looking forward to leveraging our strength in exclusively exploring Tamil music content across all formats”.

 

West Bengal govt, DD organise festival of Bengali movies 

To showcase critically-acclaimed films, the West Bengal government and Doordarshan recently organised a two-day film festival on September 6 and 7. Named “Best of Indian Cinema — Bengal Film Festival”, the collaborative initiative offered a bouquet of films which have received awards and laurels at the international festival circuit. A special highlight of the inaugural day was a panel discussion on “Cinema and Other Allied Arts-the Interdependence” by Goutam Ghose, Ashoke Viswanathan and Jahar Kanungo. The session on September 6 was moderated by eminent film critic Manojit Lahiri.
Exhibition and promotion of books on films and filmmaking, CDs/DVDs, Bengali handloom and handicrafts and Bengali cuisine were added attractions of the programme. The movies which were screened over a period of two days were Kaalbela (2009), directed by Goutam Ghose, Jahar Kanungo’s Nisshabd (2005), Mahulbonir Sereng (2003) by Sekhar Das, Elar Char Adhyay (2011) by Bappaditya Bandopadhyay, Prohor (2002) by Subhadro Choudhury and The Last Lear (2007) by late film-maker Rituparno Ghosh. The festival was inaugurated at Banga Bhavan in the presence of Sanjay Mitra, Chief Secretary, West Bengal, Director General (DD News) Archana Datta and other senior officials.
