It’s been little more than a month that a new entertainment channel, Sony Pal was launched. While it is still to be seen how the channel performs, it has managed to get some of the most reputed producers on-board, the recent one being small screen’s czarina, Ekta Kapoor.
Kapoor’s Yeh Dil Sun Raha Hai is one of the first shows from the Balaji Telefilms’ banner that is set in a small town milieu. Set in Patna, the show charts the journey of Poorvi (Aparna Dixit), the daughter of a senior government employee, and Arjun (Navi Bhangu), the spoilt son of the local coal mafia, and their star-crossed love story.
Interestingly, the show captures life in a small town, and how women there are discriminated and oppressed. Kapoor wants to ensure that the “Decadence that exists in our society is explored, represented and then questioned.”
Being one of the most well-known TV production houses of the country, shows from the Balaji camp usually acquired the prime time slot, but this time around it has gone for with a 7 pm slot. Kapoor says that she has realised that the prime time is changing. “Also, I wanted to tap the small town audience where there’s eagerness to watch television early. While in big cities, the audience switch on the TVs only after 8.30,” she remarked.
Kapoor, who hasn’t experienced living in a small town, even went to meet people to conjure a better concept for this show.
