Milan Luthria who had planned to make a film with Arjun Kapoor has dropped the project and will no longer be making the film. The reason is that the script was similar to Shah Rukh Khan’s Fan directed by Maneesh Sharma. Fan is said to be the story of a film star who finds his biggest fan in a lookalike and decides to swap places with him. In Luthria’s film, Kapoor and his lady love were a couple who find commoners to take their place in their social and professional lives so that they can rediscover themselves. Though Luthria did not wish to take any names he said, “Yes that’s true. Some time back we were working on our scripts and we heard about the theme of this film. That too was a celebrity lookalike story. These things happen like it did with The Dirty Picture and Heroine. Since that film has already taken off, we dropped the idea to make ours. It’s obviously not a nice situation, but we are experienced film-makers and know that something like this happens from time to time. Once the concept is out it does not make any sense and my films have always been fresh from what other people have been doing. As film-makers we always have stories on the back burners we have something that is almost. Once we finalise everything, I will talk then,” said Luthria.
Meanwhile the director is giving final touches to his co-production with Bhushan Kumar. “In a couple of weeks, we will be making an announcement about the film, but before that I want to finish my script first. It’s an adventure film and will be made on a large scale,” he said.
