After the 2009 blockbuster Mee Shivajiraje Bhosale Boltoy, director Santosh Manjrekar took some time to select his next project. He is now back with another socially-relevant film. Surajya – A Movement talks about age-old beliefs and superstitions that are set in the minds of villagers and how the gen-next takes on the cause to ‘open their eyes’ against corruption and fraud prevailing in today’s times.
The trailer of the film was launched recently at Jade Garden, Nehru Centre by Mahesh Manjrekar, brother of Santosh Manjrekar. Swami Sukhabodhananda from Bangalore was also present to bless the team.
Made under the banner of Vector Project Presents and Siya Manjrekar Productions, it is produced by Umesh Rao with Vinayak Prabhu as the writer and executive producer. Newcomers Vaibbhav Tatwawdi and Mrunal Thakur will be seen in the film along with Sharad Pokshe, Madhav Abhyankar, Dr. Shriram Patki, Vinayak Bhave, Nandkumar Patil and others.
Manjrekar, who has also penned the screenplay of the film, says that though there is a huge expectation riding on him post the success of Mee Shivajiraje…, he did not mind making a small film which has a good message for the audience, like his first film. For Rao and Prabhu, who are venturing into film production for the first time, it was a good story with a message that lured them into making the film more than anything else.
Made on a budget of Rs.2 crore and shot in Sawantwadi near Goa in a span of 45 days, Surajya is set to release on April 18.
