Aamir Khan can be quite self-effacing and generous with praise on unexpected occasions as he was during the trailer launch of Heropanti. Everybody present including the new hero on the block, Tiger Shroff, were praising Khan for lending his star presence to a newcomer’s launch, but Khan chose to shine the light on old favourite Jackie Shroff, also father of the newbie. Shroff, who had been answering media questions with characteristic Jaggudada speak— ‘apna bachcha hai to thoda tension to hoyega’ had the scribes delighted.
Sharing an anecdote from his younger days, Jackier said that when his first film released, he was napping at home much to the surprise of film magazine editors Rauf Ahmed and Vir Sanghvi. On being asked if he was not worried about the fate of his film, he shrugged and said, his being worried or not would not alter the fate of the film and he therefore chose not to lose sleep over it.
Well, Khan heard him out with evident admiration and said he wished he could tackle media queries with the same aplomb as his Rangeela co-star Jaggudada did!
Quite a welcome departure from the starry norm of heaping praise on themselves!

Question hour

Karan Johar is quite a sport and has a  rather mischievous streak that few would credit him with. At a promotional event for his film 2 States, he asked scribes to pose a few questions to the debut director Abhishek Varman, known for being rather media shy and low-key. Among the questions he suggested was  the rivalry between Ayan Mukerji — yet another Johar favourite from Dharma stables— and Varman, and the other was about the newbie director nursing a crush on the leading lady of the film, Alia Bhatt.  Varman obviously,  was stumped for a bit till Chetan Bhagat, the author of the book on which the film is based, let on that it was a prank being pulled by Johar. Well, as they famously say in B-town—by the end of the conference, everybody had a good laugh over it.

In awe

Saqib Saleem, who worked with Ranbir Kapoor for a commercial recently, is quite an admirer of the star, and has no qualms about expressing his hero worship . “He’s so down-to-earth and so normal when you meet him. And the way he transforms himself on screen while portraying a character, shows how brilliant he is as an actor,” Saleem goes on and on with his admiration. Now hearing one actor admire another…that’s quite endearing. It won’t come as a surprise now, if the upcoming actor will be seen alongside Kapoor in a film soon!
