Bandhan…Saari Umar Hame Sang Rehna Hai that recently replaced Ek Mutthi Aasman on Zee TV was not an easy show to execute. The show tracks the story of a little girl Darpan (Ananya Aggarwal) and Ganesha, a new-born elephant calf, who she embraces as her younger brother. Interestingly, the show was conceptualised almost two years ago but the execution took time since it features an elephant and getting all the permissions to shoot with it was a time consuming process.
Producer Siddhartha Kumar Tewary, a self-confessed animal lover, says that the ideation around the show started two years ago as his wife Gayatri came up with it. “But to make a show on a concept like this wasn’t an easy job as a lot needed to be done. The first thing was to identify a baby elephant,” he explains as he shares that once the calf elephant was chosen, it had to be brought to Umargaon (where the show is being shot) from Jaipur along with its mother.
“Besides, a lot of permissions were needed from the Animal Welfare Board and we needed to follow the guidelines of the Board before we could start the show,” he says.
It may have been time-consuming, but the end product has made the effort worthwhile. “It is one of the most interesting shows that I have made as nothing similar has been done in the past,” says Tewary, who was also applauded for his last show Mahabharat.
According to Namit Sharma, Zee TV Programming Head, the show marks a quantum leap for Indian television as the freshness of the concept establishes an all new genre. “It’s a far cry from saas-bahu dramas, kitchen politics or anything run-of-the-mill. The show has the potential to draw a much wider audience base than the average soaps.”
