Amitabh Bachchan unveiled the first look of Deepak Sawant’s debut Hindi film Leader at an event in Mumbai last week. Earlier made in Bhojpuri as Ganga Devi, Leader has now been dubbed into Hindi, revealed Bachchan adding that he hoped this film too would do as well as the original did when it released about one and a half years back.
“Leader is releasing on May 30 all over India at approximately 2000 screens and Pen N Camera International & M J Production Pvt Limited are shelling out around Rs. 5 crore on its print and promotions,” revealed N.P. Yadav, production designer of the film.
While Sawant has been working with the superstar for 40 years as his personal make-up man, Bachchan has acted in all the films that Sawant has produced till date; three in Bhojpuri titled Ganga, Gangotri, Ganga Devi and one in Marathi, Akka.
Actress Pakhi Hegde and Gulshan Grover who are part of the film were present at the event along with writer-director Abhishek Chadha, and the producers.
Sawant stated that Leader is a woman-oriented film and has politics as its background. For Chadha, signing Jaya Bachchan was a daunting task and so he approached Big B, who had said, “Kahan bandish mein daal rahe ho’. However, the couple agreed to do the film which also stars Bhojpuri star Dinesh Lal. Music by Ekbal Darbar, Madhukar Anand and Gunwant Sen, story by Pratap Gangawane, action by Tinu Verma and choreography by Pappu Khanna are the other credits.
