The bright and chirpy GUNJAN MALHOTRA who makes her debut as a leading lady in Badmashiyaan after doing several ad campaigns, with Bollywood stars, talks about her struggle in filmdom, her first film and more
I remember the first shot I gave was in Nagpur. It was for the song Shaitaniyan and I was wearing a short beige dress, which I have worn for a major part of the film. I was made to look so gorgeous that my nervousness vanished.
Working on Badmashiyaan was like an internship. I learnt a lot from my producer, Vijay sir’s conviction in us newcomers and Amit sir’s very clear and focussed direction. I also learnt how to dress up and carry myself from my co-star Suzanna Mukharjee.
Since I had only done ad campaigns before films, I was used to shooting for a few hours only. Shooting for films was a different ball game altogether as there were things like reading scripts and shooting for long hours. But I had an awesome director and team because of whom I managed to pull off difficult scenes with ease.
My role models are Amitabh Bachchan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui who struggled very hard to make their mark, but never gave up. There are several other people like them in the industry who inspire me to never give up and keep working towards their goal.
I shall continue to audition in the hope that I get that one breakthrough film in which although my role will be very small, it will be very performance-oriented.
