Tamil movie Thodari (Rail in Telugu) starring Dhanush and Keerthi Suresh has made a decent start on the day of its release, Thursday (September 22), according to early trends. According to a Tamil box office reports, the movie grossed an estimated Rs 4.32 crore at the box office on day one of its release in Tamil Nadu.
The latest trends are from Tamil Nadu alone owing to the fact that the movie’s release was delayed in Karnataka in the light of the ongoing water dispute between the two states. In Telangana, especially in Hyderabad, the movie’s Telugu version Rail got a late screening due to licensing issues and satellite downlink problems because of rains, said a theatre owner in the city.
Thodari is directed by Prabhu Solomon, starring Dhanush and Keerthy Suresh in the lead roles. The film released in the rest of the country on Thursday.
The movie was initially expected to release in May this year. However, it was delayed multiple times due to unknown reasons. The film director Prabhu Solomon has super hits like ‘Kumki’ and ‘Mynaa’ to his credit. This film is said to be inspired by real-life incidents.
The director had said that his train journey in 1991 to Ghaziabad from Neyveli that lasted two days and one night provided him with a plot to write Thodari, which means train in Tamil. Prabhu, who is known for making films with newcomers, has cast A-lister Dhanush in this romantic thriller.
The film is about a blooming romance between Keerthi Suresh, who seems to be a runaway, and Dhanush, a pantry boy on the train, amid a hijack.
