Popular writer, producer Panchu Arunachalam passes away at 75

Well known Tamil writer and producer Panchu Arunachalam, who has been credited for taking megastar Rajinikanth to the masses, breathed his last here on Tuesday (August 9), his publicist said. He was 75.”He passed away at his residence due to age-related ailments,” Arunachalam’s publicist told IANS. He is survived by his wife, two daughters and two sons.

He is popular for writing over 100 Tamil films, including hits like Murattu Kaalai, Sakalakala Vallavan and Apoorva Sagodhargal. While late filmmaker K. He has also worked as a songwriter. Earlier this year, a critically-acclaimed documentary on Panchu called A Creator With Midas Touch was released. Panchu is survived by son Subbu Panchu Arunachalam, a popular Tamil actor.

Southern actor Siddharth paid his condolences to Panchu on social media. He wrote on Twitter, ” Panchu Arunachalam sir was a passionate creator. His contribution to Tamil cinema will live on forever. RIP sir. Strength to the family.”

Other celebrities also paid their homage to Panchu. Aishwaryaa R Dhanush wrote on Twitter, “Rest in peace #PanchuArunachalam uncle …you will always be loved and remembered as fondly as ever.”
