Popular Mollywood comedian Indrans gets to play villain in movie

Indrans showcased his villainous side in recently released 'Pottas Bomb'.

After acting in over 350 films,popular Malayalam film comedian Indrans showcased his villainous side in recently released ‘Pottas Bomb’,directed by Suresh Achoos.

The story follows four youngsters escaping from a juvenile home with the dream of making money and having a good time but get involved in a murder.

“I am their protector in a colony. It is a different character altogether from the ones I have been playing so far,” Indrans told PTI.

Indrans made his way in the industry as a costume designer. His first break came was ‘Choothatam’ in 1985. Initially he did both costume designing and acting in minor roles.

“I was already in the industry as a costume designer and opportunities to act in films came naturally. I must have designed costumes for over 100 films,” he said.

The Malayalam movie ‘CID Unnikrishnan BA BEd’,starring

Jayaram released in 1994,was a turning point in his career.

The film was sort of paying a tribute to Malayalam movie’s

evergreen hero,the late Prem Nazir,who played several CID

roles.

Jayaram as Unnikrishnan,dreams of becoming a CID like his

hero Nazir and Indrans is his best friend in the film.

Indrans’ lean figure and peculiar way of delivering his dialogue and mannerisms appealed to filmgoers and soon he was a permanent feature in almost every movie.

He also feels his role in the Mohanlal starrer ‘Spadikam’,which was a big hit,also got him good reviews He also did the costume designing in the movie,which earned him accolades.

Mohanlal had won the state award for the best actor in the 1995 movie directed by Bhadran,as well as the Filmfare award for his portrayal of the rowdy character ‘Aadu Thoma’.

Asked if his playing villain in ‘Pottas Bomb’ will be a turning point in his career,Indrans said,”I don’t know. We will have to wait and see.”

Most of his films have been with popular hero Dileep. “Our combination with Harishree Ashokan (another popular comedian) has tasted many a success.”

About legendary Adoor Bhasi-Bahadur (Malayalam industry’s Hardy-Laurel combine) comedy team,he said it is difficult for such pairs to emerge in present times.

Indrans is busy with the shoot of ‘Mannar Mathai-2’,sequel to the 1995 box-office hit ‘Mannar Mathai Speaking’,in Kochi. Mukesh,Sai Kumar and Janardhanan,actors in MMS will be reprising their roles.

MMS was sequel to the blockbuster ‘Ramji Rao Speaking’ (1989),the debut film of talented actor Sai Kumar and director duo Siddique-Lal.

The present movie is directed by Mamas.

“Costume designing is a strenuous process. I do not think,I can take up it again,combining with my acting career. You got to search for the exact costumes,cloth and other paraphernalia… Too taxing now,” he said.

Asked to pick his best roles,Indrans said,”I liked my roles in ‘Raamanam’,’Drishtaantham’ and ‘Kadhavaseshan’. These are the films which come to my mind right now.”
