The film will go on floors on January 20 next year and the filmmakers are planning to release in May. It will be bankrolled by Aashiravad Cinemas, owned by Mohanlal’s close friend Antony Perumbavoor in association with Mohanlal’s home production Maxlab.

The just-announced project marks Unnikrishnan’s fourth collaboration with Mohanlal. Previously, the actor-director duo have given films like Madampi, Grand Master and Mr Fraud.

Mohanlal is currently basking in the success of back-to-back hits. His last release Pulimurugan is still running in theatres. The dubbed Telugu version of the film was released in Telugu states last week to an encouraging response.

The film titled 1971 – Beyond Borders, a prequel to Kurukshetra, and is based on the true events of the 1971 India-Pakistan war. Mohanlal will play a dual role, one as iconic Major Mahadevan and as his dad Colonel Sahadevan.

And he is also awaiting the release of his next film Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol, which is set to hit the screens on December 16.

According to reports, Mohanlal will take a break for a month and travel to the US with the family for a vacation. He will start shooting for Unnikrishnan’s film after returning from the trip.
