Kannada actor and founder of Karnataka Pragnyavanta Janata Paksha (KPJP) Upendra on Saturday invited common people with political aspirations to join his party. He also said he had no qualms about welcoming members from other existing parties into his political outfit, which is just a few weeks old.
The 50-years-old actor also unveiled a smartphone app, Prajaakeeya, where users can get all the information regarding his political party. This application can also be used to seek membership in the party or candidacy to contest in the upcoming Karnataka assembly elections on KPJP ticket.
At the press conference, Upendra pointed at a few empty chairs arranged on a platform and said those belonged to candidates of his party, who will be contesting the elections, which is due early next year.
“I’ve been telling this from the beginning that KPJP is a platform, where anyone from the public with an intention to do something good, can come and take the seats,” he said while noting that the educational qualification of candidates was not a criteria to seek an opportunity to represent his party in polls.
“Usually good people don’t come to politics because of various reasons. Please don’t be afraid come and join us,” he said, adding, “We’ve been receiving thousands of e-mails every day. Now anyone can use this application (to seek a chance to fight elections) and become leaders. When you win, go and serve people as their workers (labourers).”
He said there won’t be any exceptions or favours while selecting the candidates for his party. Everyone will be selected through a procedure.
Upendra has vowed to build a political party without receiving party funds from anyone or indulge in the traditional ways of election campaigns such as holding rallies that require a huge amount of cash.
“When some people see our efforts to build a cashless party from distance, they may find it funny. They may even ask, how is it possible to reach out to all people only through media. But, this distrust will be proved wrong,” he said with confidence.
