“Rajinikanth sir and his daughter Aishwarya returned to Chennai earlier this evening. He was welcomed by hordes of fans at the airport. From the first week of August, he will resume work on his Tamil film ‘2.o’,” a source close to the 65-year old star told IANS.
As part of his vacation, the “Enthiran” actor is rumoured to have attended a detoxification program. He also spent some time in Satchitandanda ashram in Virginia.
Rajinikanth’s latest Tamil outing Kabali, which released on Friday (July 22), is successfully running in cinemas. An action-packed directorial by Pa Ranjith, Kabali features 65-year-old megastar Rajinikanth as a gangster who takes a shot at redemption and how he fights for equal pay rights for Tamils in Malaysia.

The movie, which had reportedly minted Rs 200 crore from its pre-release business, is also on a winning spree in North America. If Salman Khan is Sultan, Rajinikanth is the box office Emperor as the Kabali day 3 box office collections have proved. The film earned approximately Rs 48 crore at the Indian box office on Friday and backed it up with a solid performance on day 2 and 3.
While figures from south India are yet to come in, the film is performing well in north India as well. As per trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the film has grossed about Rs 11.40 crore net, including Hindi, Tamil and Telugu versions, in two days. On Friday, it garnered Rs 5.20 cr., while on Saturday it showed a 19.23% growth with a collection of Rs 6.20 crore. Of the over 10,000 screens that Kabali released worldwide, these earnings account for 1000 screens in north India.
