Janatha Garage, after its four-day run, has earned Rs 50 crore at the box office and become a hit in Tollywood. With a massive reception in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Kerala, the movie seems like a jolt to the critics.
On the eve of Ganesh Chaturthi, the Janatha Garage film crew sat on for a casual talk sharing some behind-the-screen gossip and how they all felt about the movie. The movie’s production house Mythri Movie Makers on Monday shared a video on its YouTube channel with director Kortala Siva in conversation with Jr NTR, Nithya Menen, Rajeev Kanakala and Ramajoggayya Sastry among others.
Young “Tiger” and the lead actor of the movie, Jr NTR said it was effortless for him to act with his co-star Mohanlal. “Every scene with Mohanlal was a great experience. Initially I had my inhibitions working with a man of that stature but after talking with him it felt very effortless sharing screen space with him. The way he invited me into his comfort zone made me forget what his stature was and it was just his character Satyam I felt was acting with,” Jr NTR said.
While we all believe the movie was made to deliver a message of safeguarding the environment, director Koratala Siva thinks otherwise.

“There isn’t any message in the movie. I don’t give any messages. The characters in the movie are very interesting and inspiring. It’s these characters that shaped the movie,” Siva said.
Janatha Garage was Siva’s first movie with Tarak, both as a screenwriter and director. Siva wrote the script to his earlier blockbuster Brindavana. The director said this combo of writing and direction made Tarak’s character possible. ”As just a writer to the movie, I had many restrictions but now with directional freedom, I thought I want to utilise the actor completely. I know how expressive is Jr NTR and how he performs, being both the screenwriter and director gave me that platform to go full throttle,” said Siva.
While director Siva is all praise about Tarak’s performance, Nithya Menen also expressed her comfort working with her co-star. “I felt very comfortable working with Jr NTR. We immediately broke the ice almost the first day. I always found him very down to earth,” said Nithya.
Talking about the script, Siva said the movie was all set since he started to pen it down. “Everything about the script was clear since the beginning when I started to write it. And I was pretty sure that even the audience would receive and travel with the story as I did. Showing a conflict within the family was a powerful emotion and going against the family to do something justifiable, I had no doubt about the story,” he said.
“The movie also did very well in Malayalam, the audience felt it was a straight film (it was dubbed in Malayalam), like a fresh Malayalam film of Mohanlal. I believe they all liked the setup and the characterization. Mohanlal spoke on phone for 30 minutes, explaining about the reception down in Kerala,” Siva added.
