Actor and son of legendary film star Sivaji Ganesan, Prabhu, today said he and his family were touched by the announcement of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa to construct a memorial in honour of his late father.
“I am overwhelmed and and my entire family too, we are very very happy, we are grateful to our honourable Chief Minister Puratchi Thalaivi Amma for the decision to construct the memorial,” Prabhu told PTI.
“My father continues to live in the hearts of the people of Tamil Nadu and this decision of our Chief Minister also shows her regard for my dad,” he said.
“I thank her once again on behalf of me, my family and millions of my father’s fans,” he said.
Actors Kamal Haasan and Nazar also expressed their “heartfelt thanks” to Jayalalithaa for the announcement.
By announcing the decision to set up a memorial, “the government has added laurels to itself,” Haasan said in a message read out by Nazar.
Nadigar Thilagam Sivaji Samuga Nala Peravai, a social welfare outfit run by his fans, which has been urging the State government to construct the memorial, also thanked Jayalalithaa. The Peravai had staged a fast last month over the issue.
“We are very very happy, it is a matter of pride, we (actors) see it is a mark of respect shown for his acting skills.” actor Vishal said.
