RRR star Ram Charan is on cloud nine as “Naatu Naatu” won the Best Original Song at the 95th Academy Awards. Ram, in a recent interview has opened up about how he and his wife Upasana Kamineni have a small ritual of setting up a small temple everywhere they go to be connected to their motherland. The little temple that Ram and Upasana set up in their hotel room comprises idols of Lord Ram, Lakshman and Sita along with Ganesha and Hanuman.
Ram, in a conversation with Vanity Fair, shared, “Wherever I go, usually my wife and I set up this temple, this ritual, it just keeps keeps us connected to our energies and India, and it is very important for all of us to when we being out day, thanking and showing gratitude to everything and every person who has helped us be here. Not too much, but it’s just a few moments and we hit the road.”

Ram then also shared how and why he chose to wear Shantanu and Nikhil’s design for the milestone moment of his life — walking the Oscar’s red carpet and how every detail on his outfit had an Indian connect. He shared, “It’s come out great and I’m feeling like I’m wearing India. It’s detailed beautifully with everything. It’s weighing down a little bit because India’s pride is also on our shoulders and it is a little heavy. But literally thank you Nikhil, you’ve done a great job. Here you have a Bharat coin which is imposed with the Bharat symbol.”
Upasana’s stylist for the evening shared details on the saree and jewellery that she donned at the Oscars. She shared, “It is an Indian attire, it’s called saree, and it’s basically a Sanskrit word for a piece of cloth. And we chose this contrast to Ram’ all black outfit because it’ll be an amazing red carpet event but we do want them to shine at the red carpet, but they’re also like simplistic pieces. Less is more when it comes to styling.”
“Her saree is basically made out of silk scraps by Telangana artisans back in India, so it means a lot for them to be wearing that and representing their state and their city on the red carpet,” she added.
Ram Charan, his wife Upasana, Jr NTR, filmmaker SS Rajamouli and composer MM Keeravani were present for the big night where they won an Oscar. Deepika Padukone was part of the 95th Academy Awards as a presenter. Deepika introduced the Naatu Naatu performance, by singers Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava, at the ceremony.
