While we cherish characters of Aamir Khan, Kunal Kapoor, Sidharth, Sharman Joshi and many others in cult hit Rang De Basanti, we cannot ignore the fact that how many of us could completely relate to Soha Ali Khan’s character Sonia on so many levels. As Soha celebrates her 39th birthday today, we look back to how her character in the film was a perfect blend of old school romance and new age thought process.
Nowadays when we are experiencing short lived relationships, Soha’s character Sonia gives hope that you can find the one in your life who will stick by your side in every situation. Sonia was a modern open-minded individual who fought for her love. And her love was so strong that it eventually brought the entire world together.
If she was a happy go lucky sorts then she wouldn’t have fought for the death of her beloved and her sorrow wouldn’t have moved these five people and then make them do what they did. In a way, Soha was the strength and the center of the entire film.
We bet you still shed a tear or two when you watch “Tu Bin Bataye” song from the film. You know it’s an act but you can’t help but get immersed into it.
Over the years, Soha’s filmography might be nothing to write home about but her character from Rang De Basanti is for sure eternal. It proves the kind of actor she can be if given the right script and right platform.
It’s unfortunate that the film’s success was just credited to the male actors while women formed the crux of the story.
Meanwhile, Soha Ali Khan has just started a new phase of her life. She has been blessed with a baby girl and her fans are ecstatic about the news. Here’s wishing the new mommy a very happy birthday and loads of happiness ahead.
