When the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Prince William and Kate Middleton evinced a desire to experience the song and dance culture popularised the world over by Hindi films, it was music maestro Shankar Mahadevan and eminent choreographer Shaimak Davar British embassy turned to requesting if they could give the Royals a glimpse of the charming world of Bollywood. And needless to say both maestros accepted the invite and delivered standout performances.
Choosing an eclectic medley of songs from their own pool of compositions, Shankar accompanied by his talented singer son Siddharth produced a jugalbandi that wowed the Royals and other noted guests present. Shankar kick started his performance with the soulful ‘Taare Zameen Par’ while Siddharth followed it up with Zinda from Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. The father-son duo rounded off their act with their uber popular ‘Breathless’, a performance that literally left everyone breathless.
Speaking to IndianExpress.com. Shankar’s wife Sangeeta who was present at the do yesterday said, “It was a fantastic experience with all the who’s who of the country present. Apparently the Royals are fascinated by Bollywood and they insisted on seeing a flavour of it. Shankar and Shaimak were the only two performers for the evening. Since the Royals were supporting the NGO for child education, Shankar started with Taare Zameen Par and Siddharth joined in with Zinda and later they performed Breathless together. We got a great response from everyone present. We were also introduced to the Royals and they were very gracious.”
