In response to reports of his alleged arrest in Dubai, Pakistani singer Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has issued a statement via his official Instagram page, urging his fans to disregard them.

Earlier in the day, Pakistan’s Geo News reported, “quoting Dubai police sources”, that Rahat had been arrested and taken to the Burj Dubai police station for questioning over a defamation complaint filed by his former manager, Salman Ahmed.

Now, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has issued a video statement saying that all is well. “I came here (Dubai) to record my songs. Everything is going well and fine. I request you not to pay any attention to disgusting rumours. These reports are not true. Maybe the enemies want them to be, but they aren’t,” he said in the video, which appears to have been filmed on a balcony with the cityscape in the background. “You are my power, my audience and fans are my power,” he added.

“News circulating regarding the arrest of Rahat Fateh Ali Khan is fake and baseless,” read the description of the video. However, comments on the post have been disabled.

Earlier, Geo News had reported that Rahat Fateh Ali Khan was taken into custody at the immigration centre upon arriving in Dubai from Lahore and then taken to the police station for questioning and potential charges related to the complaint. The channel further “quoted its sources” as saying that Salman Ahmed, who was dismissed by Rahat a few months back following a dispute, had submitted complaints against him to the Dubai authorities.
