Rapper Lil Wayne Lil Wayne is suing his record label for USD 51 million. In the lawsuit filed in Manhattan Federal Court, Wayne said Cash Money Records has been failing to honour his contract and cheating him out of millions, reported New York Daily News.
The company has failed to pay Wayne, listed in the lawsuit as Dwayne Michael Carter Jr, the USD 8 million it owes him for his soon-to-be-released album ‘Tha Carter V.’
The suit says that under the terms of a 2012 contract extension, Cash Money is supposed to pay him USD 8 million up front when he starts work on a new album, and another USD 2 million when he delivers it.
Wayne said he delivered the completed album in December — but the label has yet to pay him for even starting it.
His lawyer, Michael Kramer said since Cash Money hasn’t paid the USD 8 million for that album, “it appears they won’t
be paying Lil Wayne for the two additional albums” the contract calls for.
Wayne took to Twitter last month to vent his frustrations with Cash Money. “I want off this label and nothing to do with these
people but unfortunately it ain’t that easy,” he tweeted.
“I am a prisoner and so is my creativity.” Representatives for Cash Money are yet to comment.
