Actor Prithviraj saw the teaser of upcoming historical drama Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham at a special event held in honour of superstar Mohanlal. The film event organised by Aashirvad Cinemas saw some of the biggest names of Malayalam cinema in attendance in Kochi.
Prithviraj was blown away by the teaser but he says that he was not surprised by the grandeur of it. “I am not surprised by the visual spectacle and aesthetics of this film. Because it is a film directed by Priyadarshan sir and as a fan of his, this is what I expect when he is making a film on such a grand scale,” he said at the event.
“But, we have to remember one thing that footage that we saw is from a Malayalam film,” he added.
Written and directed by Priyadarshan, Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham is based on the life of Kunjali Marakkar IV, the decorated fourth Muslim naval chief of the Zamorin (Samoothiri), during the 16th century in Kerala.
Priyadarshan nurtured the ambition of adapting the story of Kunjali Marakkar IV for the big screen for more than 20 years. The film is being made at an estimated cost of Rs 100 crore, making it the costliest film in the history of Malayalam cinema.
Even as the shooting of the film was completed in about three months, the exhaustive pre-production work involving massive special effects work would go on for about a year. The film is expected to be ready to hit the screens in 2020.
