Mamukkoya was 76.Veteran Malayalam actor Mamukkoya, who was admitted to a private hospital in Kozhikode after he suffered a brain hemorrhage besides cardiac arrest, passed away on Wednesday. He was 76.
Mamukkoya was admitted to the hospital after he collapsed at the venue of a football tournament at Wandoor in Malappuram on Monday.
After his stint in theatre, Mamukkoya made his silver screen debut with 1979 film Anyarude Bhoomi. He went on to act in over 400 films, including Gandhinagar 2nd Street, Sandesham, Nadodikattu, Vadakkunokkiyantram, Chakoram, Ramji Rao Speaking, Innathe Chintha Visheyam and Perumazhakkalam among others, proving he can play both comedic and character roles with ease. He even won a Kerala State Award in 2004 and 2008.
Mamukkoya was last seen in Sulaikha Manzil, which hit screens on April 21.
The actor is survived by his wife and four children.

V D Satheesan, Leader of Opposition, Kerala Assembly, tweeted, "Aduie to #Mamukkoya, the great actor of Malayalam cinema. He was a superb comedian who made generations of film lovers laugh. His charectors will be remembered forever. Pranamam. #ripMamukkoya."

The last rites of Mamukkoya will be held on Thursday.
Mamukkoya's mortal remains were kept in the Kozhikode Town Hall for the public to pay their last respects.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan tweeted, "Mamukkoya, with his lively and novel on-screen performances, has enthralled film lovers across Kerala for decades. His sudden demise is a big loss to the industry, the world of art and the state’s public sphere. Joining the grief of family, friends, and the film world."
Mohanlal took to Facebook and wrote, "Beloved Mamukkoya was a man without pretension and full of goodness. This unique talent presented the Malabar style on the silver screen in a very natural way. I have been lucky enough to act with him in so many films, from Doore Doore Oru Koodu Koottam to the recent film directed by Priyadarshan, Olavum Theeravum. That innocent smile will never fade away and will remain in my heart forever. It is a great loss to Malayalam cinema, and I offer my condolences on his demise."
Actor-politican Suresh Gopi tweeted, "Rest in Peace, dear Mamukkoya. The people of Kerala will never forget you."

Actor Dileep also shared a photo of Mamukkoya and wrote, "With a big smile, you loved me like a friend and brother. You will remain the sultan of laughter.”
