Kannan Pattambi Death: The Malayalam actor passes away.
Kannan Pattambi Death News: Malayalam actor and production controller Kannan Pattambi passed away on Sunday night in Kozhikode, Kerala while undergoing treatment for a kidney-related ailment at a private hospital. He was 62 years old. His elder brother Major Ravi, popular Malayalam actor and filmmaker, confirmed the news through a Facebook post on Monday morning.
“My dear brother, Kannan Pattambi, who was a film production controller, passed away at 11:41 PM last night. The funeral will be held at Pattambi’s home in Njangattiri today at 4 PM. My younger brother, Kannan Pattambi, has left for his heavenly abode. Om Shanti,” Ravi posted in Malayalam on his Facebook account.
Pattambi worked extensively with Ravi, a former Indian Army officer who later became a prominent filmmaker and actor in Malayalam cinema, best known for his films on the themes of armed forces and national security. Of the many films the brothers worked on together, one of the key ones was Mission 90 Days, the 2007 film starring Mammootty. It was based on Ravi’s personal experiences linked to the investigation around the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in the early 1990s.
Besides his brother Major Ravi, Pattambi has also frequently worked on films of Mohanlal, in the capacity of both an actor and a production controller. These include Vysakh’s 2016 action thriller epic Pulimurugan, which made history at the box office by becoming the first Malayalam film to cross Rs 100 crore.
Another film on which Pattambi collaborated with both his frequent professional partners — Major Ravi and Mohanlal — was the 2010 period war drama Kandahar. Revolving around the infamous hijacking of Indian aircraft IC-814 in 1999, the film was helmed by Ravi and headlined by Mohanlal. It also starred Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan in a rare Mollywood appearance. Pattambi, Ravi, and Mohanlal also worked together on the 2012 action thriller, Karmayodha, and the 2008 period war drama Kurukshetra, set in the Kargil War of 1999.
Pattambi’s filmography as an actor is across 23 films, including Ranjith’s 2004 neo-noir action thriller Black, starring Mammootty; Priyadarshan’s 2004 comedy Vettam, starring Dilip; VA Shrikumar’s 2018 fantasy Odiyan, starring Mohanlal; and Jeetu Joseph’s 2022 thriller 12th Man, starring Mohanlal.
