Disney taking over 21st Century Fox is one of the biggest events in the entertainment industry in recent times. Conspiracy theorists can’t help whispering darkly regarding how Disney is taking over the world, and geeks, on the other hand, are delighted with the development. With the deal, Disney gets the rights to franchises like X-Men and Fantastic Four, which had been owned by Fox before. Stan Lee, the creator of some of the most iconic Marvel characters, has commented on the Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox properties. Not surprisingly, he is delighted that other Marvel superheroes are once again under Disney-Marvel’s fold.
“A truly great piece of news! Now characters such as the X-Men and the Fantastic Four can come home to the place where they belong. It’s vitally important to have the Marvel characters under one roof. And now, as great as they were before, I can’t wait to see the wonders that will unfold!,” he said to Newsarama.
In the 1990s, during Marvel’s tough days, the company had to sell some of its properties to film studios like Fox and Sony to stay afloat. Now that the sun is shining again, Marvel Entertainment, which is Disney’s subsidiary now, is either buying back its properties or making a deal like it did with Spider-Man, which appeared in Captain America: Civil War and Spider-Man: Homecoming and is now under Marvel’s Cinematic Universe.
It is expected that X-Men and Fantastic Four will not immediately appear in Marvel Cinematic Universe as it would be difficult to explain how powerful superhero team-ups like X-Men and Avengers did not meet if they were in the same universe.
