Terminator: Dark Fate is the sixth installment in the Terminator franchise and a direct sequel to the first two films, The Terminator (1984) and Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Tim Miller, the director of the first Deadpool film, has helmed the film.
Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger return in their roles of Sarah Connor and T-800 (or the Terminator). Mackenzie Davis, Natalia Reyes, Gabriel Luna and Diego Boneta are joining the franchise with this film.
Terminator: Dark Fate begins on a shocking note. It turns out that T-800 was successful in his mission to terminate John Connor, the purported future saviour of humanity against Skynet. While Sarah and John are relaxing on a beach in 1998, the Terminator turns up and kills John.
Grace (Davis), a cybernetic soldier, and Rev-9, an advanced terminator, arrive from the future separately. Grace’s job is to protect Dani, a young woman destined to be John Connor’s successor as the saviour of humanity. Grace and Dani meet Sarah. Grace tells Sarah that while neither John or Skynet exist in her timeline, the humans have Legion to deal with. It is a global AI network and a successor to Skynet and it was the one that sent Rev-9.
Grace, Dani and Sarah team up with T-800, who has integrated himself into human society, goes by the name Carl and even has a family.
Rev-9 is too much for the group as they struggle against it before ultimately making a last stand at a hydropower plant. Carl and Grace combine forces to send the Rev-9 into a turbine, destroying its outer shell and reducing it to an exoskeleton. The explosion incapacitates everyone and mortally wounds Grace.
And Rev-9 is still unrelenting. Grace asks Carl (T-800) to use her power source. Dani stabs Rev-9 with the power source and Carl drags it over a ledge. They fall and survive, only for Carl to destroy the Rev-9 and himself.
