Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone starrer La La Land is all set to have its Indian premiere at the Jio MAMI Film Club on November 23. The much-awaited film will be screened at the film club much before it’s official release date, December 9. The film is directed by Damien Chazelle, whose 2014 film Whiplash bagged three Academy awards. Smriti Kiran, creative director of MAMI, said the team zeroed in on the romantic-musical-drama as it is one of the most talked about films of the year.

“La La Land is one of the hottest titles in the festival circuit this year. It is by the director who gave us Whiplash, then there is Ryan Gosling. The film is a musical, it has romance, and both these genres have not been explored in a big way in the recent years,” Smriti said.

“It (La La Land) is touted to be one of the Oscar front-runners and therefore we thought it would be an ideal treat for people who are film club members,” she added. “La La Land”, which also stars John Legend, Rosemarie Dewitt and J K Simmons, follows a musician and aspiring actress who meets and fall in love in Los Angeles. Smriti says the team was in constant touch with Viacom18 Motion Pictures, who is distributing the movie in India, for getting “La La Land” to the Mumbai film festival, but when that couldn’t happen, they decided to screen it at the film club.

More from the world of Entertainment:

“In the West everything is clearly planned and marked out. Viacom worked with us closely to see we get this. We couldn’t get the movie for our festival but they were determined that MAMI should be associated with the film, some way or the other.” La La Land had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival on August 31. The uncensored version of the movie will be screened at the film club.
