Phantom Thread is a much-awaited film, and the reason isn’t just because moviegoers are interested in its premise. It is anticipated mostly because it is going to be legendary British actor Daniel Day-Lewis’s last movie of the career. Earlier this year, the ‘Lincoln’ star, who is considered by many as the greatest actor of all time, had taken voluntary retirement from the world of cinema after four illustrious decades. Daniel Day-Lewis is known for his performances in films like There Will Be Blood and Gangs of New York. You can watch the trailer below.
The movie is directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, who has also co-produced and written the film. Phantom Thread is his first movie in three years. It also stars Lesley Manville, Vicky Krieps and Richard Graham. The trailer promises a quiet and understated fashion drama, pretty British in many ways. The official synopsis reads like this:
“Set in the glamour of 1950s post-war London, renowned dressmaker Reynolds Woodcock (Daniel Day-Lewis) and his sister Cyril (Lesley Manville) are at the center of British fashion, dressing royalty, movie stars, heiresses, socialites, debutants and dames with the distinct style of The House of Woodcock. Women come and go through Woodcock’s life, providing the confirmed bachelor with inspiration and companionship, until he comes across a young, strong-willed woman, Alma (Vicky Krieps), who soon becomes a fixture in his life as his muse and lover. Once controlled and planned, he finds his carefully tailored life disrupted by love.”
Phantom Thread is scheduled to be released on December 25 this year.
