Vanity Fair wanted Melania Trump on it’s cover in July. For months, whispers in the industry claimed the magazine needed the FLOTUS on its pages to stay afloat. The new editor was ready to roll out the glossy cover, but staffers threatened to walk. Now, according to reports, Melania herself shot down the offer, and even laughed at the whole idea.
Earlier, news broke that the magazine’s new global editorial director, Mark Guiducci, tried to woo the First Lady with a lucrative cover offer. But when Vanity Fair staff found out, they were furious. Some even threatened to quit if it went ahead. One editor told the Daily Mail that if Guiducci pushed through, half the staff would walk. That person said they’d rather bag groceries at Trader Joe’s than work at the magazine if Melania landed the cover. “I will walk out the motherf***ing door, and half my staff will follow me… If I have to work bagging groceries at Trader Joe’s, I’ll do it. It sickens me.”

But Melania, for her part, doesn’t seem interested in the offer at all. “She doesn’t have time to be sitting in a photo shoot. Her priorities as First Lady are far more important… These people don’t deserve her anyway,” a source told Page Six. The outrage isn’t new. Back in Trump’s first term, magazines like Vogue (under Anna Wintour) snubbed Melania, despite her being a longtime cover fixture since her modeling days, while other First Ladies graced the pages multiple times. Conservatives often called it unfair treatment. Melania herself doesn’t appear bothered. She’s already landed international covers like Vanity Fair Mexico in 2017 and even released her own biography, all while juggling a slate of projects that keep her busy around the clock.
The First Lady of the United States, known for her custom luxury looks, is juggling several philanthropic projects, including her “Fostering the Future” program for foster children. She continues to oversee her “Be Best” initiative on cyberbullying and opioid abusec, and it was her push that helped bring the “Take It Down Act” into effect, forcing social media platforms to remove non-consensual intimate images. As Donald Trump’s tariff battles stir up the political and foreign scene, she is also quietly driving the Presidential Artificial Intelligence Challenge to get kids interested in AI, while stepping into foreign policy. During peace talks between Russia and Ukraine, she even wrote a personal letter to Vladimir Putin, which Trump hand-delivered ahead of a summit, urging him to think about protecting children and future generations.
Currently she is also working on a documentary for Amazon, writing a best-selling memoir, and creating an AI-powered audiobook. “She’s way above doing Vanity Fair,” the insider said. “She’s been nothing but kind and works hard… She has her priorities straight.”
On the other side, conservative media also jumped in to defend the FLOTUS. Fox & Friends hosts slammed the magazine staff who were against putting Melania on the cover, and some suggested those editors should be “fired” and even told Vanity Fair staff to expose anyone who complained. He mocked one editor’s claim about quitting for a grocery store job by saying Trader Joe’s “has standards.” Ainsley Earhardt, his co-host, said she’d buy several copies if Melania did get a cover and claimed that the magazine’s stock should rise for showing “both sides.” She pointed out that Michelle Obama and Jill Biden have appeared on Vogue multiple times, but Melania was never given the same spotlight as First Lady.
