Many would suggest anger be shunned, but Hollywood star Jason Sudeikis, who has voiced the character Red in “The Angry Birds Movie”, says if channeled in the right direction, “letting out anger every now and then is a healthy”.

Connecting to anger in a “justified” manner can “actually manufacture change in the world”, he added.

The star also has a word of caution for all his fans: “Don’t let it all the way out but just a little toot of it”.

As the name suggests, “The Angry Birds Movie” explores the emotion through the film, which hits the screens in India on May 27 in English, Hindi and Tamil. It will be distributed by Sony Pictures.

Sudeikis feels “anger and frustration within oneself is justifiable”.

“I personally feel that anger and frustration within oneself is justifiable, understood, and important feeling. I think, much like you see in the subways, ‘see something, say something’; the idea of being angry and being upset is an important one,” Sudeikis told IANS in an email response.

He added: “We can connect to that and speak towards it, there’s a better chance we can have participating in those conversationthat actually manufacture change in the world that we live in. I think it’s important. Letting out anger, every now and then, actually is a healthy thing. Don’t hold it all the way in and don’t let it all the way out, but a little toot of anger, every now and then, is a nice thing.”

Taking the basic structure of Rovio Entertainment’s mobile game of the same name, the film brings the story of Red and his friends onto the silver screen in a hilarious manner.

In the game, angry but cute little birds fight it out with pigs who have stolen their eggs. In the film, the birds will get angry, they will seek revenge, they will vow to save their world but with traces of comedy.

The film is supported by Josh Gad as speedy Chuck, Danny McBride as the volatile Bomb, Bill Hader as a pig, Maya Rudolph as Matilda, and Peter Dinklage as the Mighty Eagle.

The “Horrible Bosses” fame actor Sudeikis also shared that the film helped him “put me in touch with my inner anger”.

He said: “There’s just a ton in my world that makes me really angry and ticked off. My anger Bingo card is full. I let out my anger with sarcasm, I guess I got it from my dad.”

After starting his journey in Hollywood through improv comedy, Sudeikis has carved a name for himself in the west as a comedian, screenwriter and voice actor as well. He has explored television as well as showbiz.

The small screen audience remember him for “30 Rock”, “The Cleveland Show” and “Eastbound & Down”. On the film front, he is known for “We’re the Millers”, “What Happens in Vegas” and “Horrible Bosses 2”.

Ask him whether he ever got the video game fever, Sudeikis asserts that he plays the game but doesn’t obsess over it.

He said: “I have played the game, but was not obsessed with it. You can count me in one of the billion players but not one of the regulars. I played the old version where you just throw birds at things.”

Explaining his character, Sudeikis said: “At the beginning of the film, he is the sole angry bird. He sticks out for what seems like the wrong reasons at the beginning, but it turns out that he might be on to something.

“But, obviously, the title is a bit of a spoiler, because as it turns out, there’s more than one angry bird. And exactly how that happens is what we get to discover in the course of story.”

Other than “The Angry Birds Movie”, Sudeikis also stars in “Mothers Day”, which also features Julia Roberts, Jennifer Aniston and Kate Hudson.
