There were times when we adored Emma Stone for her style and charm, and other times we simply loved her because she decisively parted ways with glamour to be a part of a good film. It wouldn’t be completely wrong to say that real life Emma Stone is living her La La Land dreams. Much like Mia from the film, she had also come to Hollywood with dreams of being an actor, and within a span of 10 years, she has turned into an Oscar winner, a Hollywood A-Lister and also one of the highest paid actors.
Emma Stone was only fifteen when she moved to LA. She entered the world of glamour with the television show, ‘In Search of the New Partridge Family’. She played the role of Laurie Partridge. Later she starred in television shows such as Medium and Malcolm in the Middle. On her birthday, here is a recollection of her films where she has been simply outstanding.
It was in Superbad where Emma Stone made her first feature film debut. She was the popular high school goer, she didn’t have a major role in the film yet she was memorable. With wide eyes and an awkward appearance she was like a breath of fresh air… a popular teenage girl who was proudly imperfect unlike the famous plastics of Mean Girls.
La La Land
It is impossible to talk about Emma Stone and not mention La La Land, the role which got her the Oscar. Although she had rivals like Meryl Streep, and Natalie Portman as her nominees that year, she had proudly won the award. Both the stars, (Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone) who are known for their charm and style, had shed off their glamorous avatars only to tell a story which films were made to tell. None of the main characters had any hard-hitting dialogues to make a point, but each frame of the film told a story by itself. They fell in love in spring and parted ways in winter. As for Emma Stone, with thick eyebrows and unsettled hair, she was a woman we meet in our day-to-day lives. She bore an expression of silent woes, a struggling actor would probably relate to, in a realm that gives more attention to glamour than talent.
Crazy Stupid Love
Another film that had marked the coming of Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, of course over here they had completely different personalities than the above-mentioned film. Here we witnessed the transition of Emma from a teenager to a person in her 20 something phase. Although in the film, she is in a phase when women easily tend to fall for men based on their appearance, here she takes her time to make a man fall in love with her before they go to the next phase.
The Amazing Spiderman
The death of Emma Stone, in the second franchise of the Andrew Garfield starrer Spiderman film, had been the worst thing ever to happen in any Spiderman movies. She played the role of Gwen Stacey, a beauty with brains. She was definitely giving serious competition to Mary Jane, the better known girlfriend of Spiderman, until her death happened.
Like mentioned earlier, Emma Stone readily parts way with glamour when it comes to work. In Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s Birdman, she played the daughter of Michael Keaton. Emma Stone had earned an Oscar nomination for this film.
Emma Stone may now be seen in more adult roles, but she mainly gained popularity for her performances as the teenager. Easy A had been one of the most notable films of Emma Stone. It was a modern adaptation of Nathaniel Hawthorne’s popular work, The Scarlet Letter. She plays a teenager who lies to her best friend about losing her virginity, but somehow it doesn’t really work out that well for her. The film was a commercial and critical success.
Magic In The Moonlight
While talking about Emma Stone, let’s also talk about Hollywood director Woody Allen who is known for his comedy-drama. There’s something about the texture in Allen’s film that gives a different glow to any actor. The film may not have done well over all, but Emma obviously shined with positive reviews. She played the role of young Sophie Baker, a clairvoyant. Much like the title, she had added magic in the film with her presence.
Happy birthday Emma Stone!
