Disney’s sequel to 2013’s megahit animated film Frozen, Frozen 2, debuted at the box office in style. It brought in 42 million dollars in its domestic market — North America — according to Forbes.
Frozen 2, directed again by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, and written by Lee, brings back Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, Jonathan Groff, Josh Gad, and Ciarán Hinds from the original film’s voice cast.
Sterling K. Brown, Evan Rachel Wood, Alfred Molina, Martha Plimpton, Jason Ritter, Rachel Matthews, and Jeremy Sisto are joining the franchise with this film.
The film is set three years after the original film. Elsa, Anna, Kristoff, Olaf, and Sven go beyond Arendelle to discover the origin of Elsa’s ice-based magical powers and to save their kingdom from a new threat.
Frozen 2 has also enamoured critics, scoring 75 per cent at Rotten Tomatoes. The critical consensus reads, “Frozen II can’t quite recapture the showstopping feel of its predecessor, but it remains a dazzling adventure into the unknown.”
The Indian Express film critic Shalini Langer gave the film 2.5 stars. She concluded her review by saying, “The sight of Elsa riding a horse made of ice, over a surging sea, is one of those truly cinematic moments. This Princess remains gloriously single, and as unafraid of taking the leap into the unknown. In perhaps the film’s best line, she notes that rather than anything else, it’s fear that can’t be trusted.”
She added, “And yet, it’s Frozen II that is bit of a snowflake.”
