Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is the second film in the Fantastic Beasts series and tenth feature in the Wizarding World franchise, which also includes the Harry Potter series. Set decades before the original Harry Potter films, the Fantastic Beasts series is about the Dark Wizard who spread his reign of terror upon the world before Lord Voldemort.
Eddie Redmayne plays the primary protagonist Newt Scamander in the Fantastic Beasts series. The sequel also features a young Dumbledore, played by Jude Law, and also shows Newt’s days at Hogwarts, the education institution dedicated to wizardry that was the setting of the Harry Potter series. The two will team up against Johnny Depp’s Gellert Grindelwald, who is gathering pure-blood wizards and witches to take on the muggles.
Here are five reasons why you should watch Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald:
Gellert Grindelwald: This movie would be our first real look at Grindelwald, since in Fantastic Beasts, all we saw of him were a few seconds in the end. In The Crimes of Grindelwald, he will tell the world his purpose and Dumbledore and Newt will decide their course of action to take on the Dark Wizard. Early reviews of the film are mixed, but nearly all the critics are united in their belief that Johnny Depp has crushed the role.
Young Dumbledore: Albus Dumbledore is easily one of the most fascinating characters in the Wizarding World. After being introduced as a kind, grandfatherly headmaster in earlier Harry Potter films, we saw he had a chequered and complex past. Two actors — Richard Harris and Michael Gambon — played the role of an old Dumbledore in Harry Potter series. It would be great to see what Jude Law can bring to the character.
Grindelwald – Dumbledore history: The two powerful wizards share a history that we know from Harry Potter books too. But this movie would be the first time the whole story will be revealed.
Supporting cast: The Crimes of Grindelwald has a strong supporting cast with names like Katherine Waterston, Ezra Miller, Dan Fogler and others.
Secrets: Warner Bros’ marketing team recently launched a campaign called #ProtectTheSecrets. It may have seemed like it was just for promotion purposes, but people who have seen the movie say Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald really does have lots of surprises and twists.
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald releases on November 16.
