The first reviews of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald are in. The second film in the Fantastic Beasts franchise (after 2016’s Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them) and the tenth film in the Wizarding World universe, The Crimes of Grindelwald has received mostly positive reactions after a screening.

One Simon Thompson, a film critic, singled out Johnny Depp for praise and said he was the highlight. His tweet read, “Saw #CrimesOfGrindelwald Thursday. Johnny Depp turns out an outstanding performance in a show-stopping turn as Grindelwald. Whether you’re new to the Wizarding World or a hardcore fan, it’s hard to resist the stunning visuals, flawless action and riveting performances. Fantastic.”

Scott Menzel, who is also a film critic, was also in awe of Depp’s “perfection.” He wrote, “Fantastic Beasts and The Crimes of Grindelwald is a magical must-see! It builds upon the original & is sure to delight Harry Potter fans. Remarkable visuals, engaging story, & an ending that will leave you speechless. Johnny Depp as Grindelwald is perfection. #CrimesOfGrindewald.”

The Crimes of Grindelwald continues the story of Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne), an English wizard and a Magizoologist, as he teams up with a younger Dumbledore (Jude Law) against the Dark Wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp). Also assisting Newt is his brother Theseus Scamander (Callum Turner), Katherine Waterston’s Tina Goldstein, Alison Sudol’s Queenie Goldstein, Dan Fogler’s Jacob Kowalski, and others. Ezra Miller, Zoë Kravitz, Claudia Kim also star.
