Dev Patel had a memorable 2016 with his Oscar-nominated movie Lion. Now, the Indian-origin actor has been cast by British filmmaker Michael Winterbottom in his next, titled The Wedding Guest, as reported by Contactmusic. At the moment, details of the plot are few and far between, but the movie will predominantly be shot in India, according to Variety. Winterbottom’s Revolution Films will produce the project alongside London-Los Angeles based Riverstone Pictures.
The principal photography of the movie is expected to start early 2018. Winterbottom’s Trishna was also shot in India, as well as parts of A Mighty Heart and Code 46. Dev Patel debuted in 2008’s Slumdog Millionaire. The film had won eight Academy Awards in the year 2009 including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Score, Best Writing Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing, Best Sound Mixing, Best Sound Editing. India’s music Maestro, AR Rahman also won the Oscar for his contribution to the film.
Dev Patel has ever since appeared in several movies based in India including The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, The Man Who Knew Infinity, The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and Lion. In his upcoming Hotel Mumbai, the 27-year-old actor will be collaborating with Jason Isaac and Anupam Kher. The film is based on the 2008 Mumbai attacks.
Dev Patel’s performance in Lion had earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor in 2017. He is also popular for his performance in Aaron Sorkin’s television series, The Newsroom.
