Some high school teen films reach a status that is far beyond the money they earned. Decades after their release, these films thrive on nostalgia and for the generation growing up in the 90s, Clueless was one such film.
According to a report in Variety, the 1995 film might get a reboot as Paramount Pictures is working with producer Tracy Oliver and writer Marquita Robinson.
Clueless was the quintessential teen movie that starred Alicia Silverstone and Paul Rudd in lead roles. The film has reached quite a cult status since its release. Clueless is loosely based on Jane Austen’s novel Emma. When they started shooting, Silverstone wasn’t aware of this and was told about the same after they wrapped up the shoot. She told Entertainment Weekly, “I had no idea. When I was done with the movie, they told me about Emma. And I read the book and I was like, Wow, Amy did such a good job. I was reading it and I’d be like, Hey, there’s Justin Walker’s character!”
The film made the phrase “as if” quite popular. Amy Heckerling wrote and directed the 1995 film.
So far, no actor has been announced for the reboot. But it would be interesting to see who steps into the shoes of Cher Horowitz.
