Disney and Marvel marketed Avengers: Infinity War as the big conclusion to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (or at least the Thanos arc), but we all knew that would happen in Avengers 4. And indeed, Infinity War left us with more questions than answers, even though it delivered a stunning spectacle in the process.
Avengers 4 is still more than half a year away, and here are the top 10 questions that we want answers to.
What is the title?
We call it ‘Avengers 4’ because it will be the fourth Avengers film. But we do not know yet what it is really going to be called. It is mind-boggling that we do not know the title of one of the biggest movies ever. Words like Annihilation, Infinity Gauntlet, Eternity, Forever and so on are thrown around as the likely candidates, with Annihilation currently the most likely.
Where are Valkyrie, Korg and the rest of the Asgardians?
Poor Asgardians. They escaped Hela and Asgard’s destruction only to come in the way of Thanos and the Black Order. Initially, we thought Thanos had decimated the Asgardians, but Thor, just in passing, mentioned that Thanos had killed half his people. He definitely killed many, including Loki (?) and Heimdall. So where are the others? Is Valkyrie alive? Korg?
Did the superheroes like Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Black Panther and others die?
Probably the biggest question about Infinity War. The end of the film left half the universe’s living beings dead when Thanos snapped the fingers of the hand with Infinity Gauntlet. Still, many say they did not die. They entered a stage of purgatory or were transported to the realm inside the Soul Stone. We will not know until the movie comes out.
If the ‘dead’ superheroes are not really dead, where are they and how can they be brought back?
As I said earlier, many believe they are either in a state of purgatory or inside the Soul Stone. They are probably with other universe’s lifeforms as well who also disappeared after Thanos’ snap. Now, many ways have been put forward as to how they can be brought back. One being, the time may be reversed. Thanos still holds the Time Stone perhaps, but there are other ways.
There is quantum realm, an alternate dimension featured in Ant-Man movies, in which the rules of space and time do not apply and thus strange things can happen. There is B.A.R.F. (Binarily Augmented Retro-Framing) too. Developed by Tony Stark, the technology was used by Tony himself in Captain America: Civil War while giving a presentation at MIT. He uses it to relive memories, mainly for therapeutic purposes.
Where has Captain Marvel been?
Captain Marvel is said to be a powerful superhero at least since the 1990s. Then why did she not fight with the Avengers in the battle of New York when Loki brought the Chitauri to earth in The Avengers. Why did Nicky Fury think to contact her only when he saw people disappearing after Thanos’ finger-snap (in the post-credit scene of Avengers: Infinity War)?
Why did Doctor Strange sacrifice the Time Stone to save Tony Stark?
Doctor Strange had said to Tony that he’d happily sacrifice him and Peter if that’s what it took to save the Time Stone. Then why did he let Thanos have the Time-Stone and save Tony? Was it about the millions of realities he saw before Thanos’ arrival on Titan? If you remember, he saw only one way the Avengers could win out of millions of possibilities. Was it about letting Thanos win only to defeat him and undo the damage?
What happened to the Infinity Gauntlet?
The Infinity Gauntlet was designed by Eitri under coercion by Thanos on Nidavellir. It was built to wield and harness the power of the Infinity Stones. After the snap, it looked damaged. What was that about?
Where is Hawkeye?
We know Jeremy Renner, the actor who plays Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, shot scenes for Avengers 4 in the reshoots. So he will appear in Avengers 4. But where was he in Infinity War? Where did he disappear? What was he doing when his comrades were fighting Thanos and the Black Order? We now know where Ant-Man was — under house arrest and having adventures of his own.
Where did Thanos go?
Thanos was last seen smiling at the sunrise at the end of Infinity War. He had that satisfied smile of a man who has achieved his life-goal. Where is it? If, like in the comics, he is in an unnamed remote planet, how will the Avengers find him (provided they want vengeance)? And what is his next move? Will he come for the superheroes if they undo the destruction?
Will cosmic entities like Galactus seek out Thanos for what he did?
Galactus is a planet-gobbling cosmic entity and one of the most powerful beings in the entire universe. There are other cosmic entities too who will be aware of Thanos and his finger-snap. Will they hold Thanos to account? The problem is, Disney’s Fox acquisition is still undergoing, so Disney does not own Galactus as yet, and cannot use him (like X-Men, Fantastic Four and other characters Fox owns) in MCU.
