Director James Cameron is rolling out the third instalment of his film Avatar, called Fire and Ash, later this month, and all eyes are on it. When the first Avatar came out in 2009, it changed people’s perception of what could be achieved with visual effects. Now critics have shared their two cents on the film after attending the world premiere of Avatar 3 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.

Film critic Courtney Howard took to social media and praised Cameron for yet another exciting film. “3 films in, James Cameron still has the sauce, making the epic spectacular feel emotionally impactful. A glorious saga. Bold, brilliant & awesome in every way, this is what movie theatres were built for,” wrote Howards. Another critic admitted that he had never been an ‘Avatar fanatic’, but he still loved what Cameron did with Avatar: Fire and Ash.

He wrote, “I may not be the biggest ‘Avatar’ superfan, but Avatar: Fire and Ash proves once again that James Cameron can and will always deliver the ultimate cinematic spectacle, pushing visuals and emotion to new heights and redefining what a true blockbuster feels like.”

Several other critics and journalists praised Avatar: Fire and Ash for its complexities beyond just the technical aspect. While the films have always been lauded for the latter, many have argued in the past that they could do with a lot more substance. Film critic Michael Lee argued the same and wrote, “Avatar: Fire and Ash is huge on visual spectacle, especially in 3D. Deeper exploration of Pandora & new tribes allows for immense world-building. The story may be lacking, but this pushes technical boundaries in unimaginable ways.”

Starring Kate Winslet, Stephen Lang, Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington and Edie Falco, Avatar: Fire and Ash will release on December 19.
