‘Mone Robe’,a Rabindrasangeet album by singers Babul Supriyo and Alka Yagnik has got the prestigious international GiMA Awards this year in the ‘Best Folk Album’ category.
‘Mone Robe’,the duet album on songs of Tagore launched last year,includes timeless tracks like ‘Mone Robe Kina Robe’,’Amar O Parano Jaha Chai’,’Noi Noi Madhur Khela’,’Amar Bela Je Jai’,’Sakhi Boye Gelo Bela’.
An ecstatic Yagnik told PTI today,”This is my first GIMA Award and getting it for a non-film album that too for Rabindrasangeet makes me proud.”
“Since having been born in Kolkata I have my roots there,this award will always remain very close to my heart,” Yagnik said.
“This is my duet album with Alkaji. As a Bengali I am extremely elated to get the GIMA award for a Rabindrasangeet album,amidst all other various albums being nominated from different regions in the category,” Babul Supriyo said.
“Mone Robe is my third Tagore album after the successof Katobaro Bhebechhinu and Jodi Jantem,” he said.
The Global Indian Music Academy (GiMA) Awards,on the lines of Grammy awards,is given across multiple genres of Indian music had in past been hosted by Shah Rukh Khan,Priyanka Chopra,Ramesh Sippy,Sonu Nigam,Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy.
The album has been brought out by Asha Audio.
