India’s legendary musician Ravi Shankar will be receiving the prestigious Fellowship Award for his outstanding contribution to the music industry.
Shankar,91,who is the first Indian artist to compose music for Western cinema,says it’s a great honour to achieve the award.
“It is a great honour to receive this fellowship award and to continue working within the long and rich cultural history of India. Of course,the greatest reward and honour is having music be such a powerful force in my life. I thank the Asian Awards for their support and for their work in recognizing the gifts of the global Asian community,” he said.
Ravi Shankar’s daughter,Anoushka Shankar,will attend the awards ceremony to receive the honour on Shankar’s behalf as he is currently on tour in America.

A host of stars includes singers Asha Bhosle,Jay Sean,actor Russell Peters,cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan and many more. Queen band-mate Brian May will also attend The Asian Awards,hosted by Lord Sebastian Coe.
The award celebrates the outstanding achievements of individuals born in or with direct family origin from India,Sri Lanka,Pakistan or Bangladesh across all disciplines of life.
