My dad helped me through my divorce with Cruise: Kidman

Nicole Kidman has revealed that it was her father who helped her emerge from the trauma of her divorce.

Nicole Kidman has revealed that it was her father who helped her emerge from the trauma of her divorce with superstar Tom Cruise.

The 42-year-old actress who is now married to rocker Keith Urban says that her dad,Anthony Kidman supported her when her 10-year-old marriage with Cruise fell apart in 2001,Daily Mail online reported.

“When my marriage to Tom Cruise fell apart,I really needed to reach out to my dad,and he was wonderful. He stood by me,comforted me; showed me,at a time when I really needed to see it,the way that a man can be strong,dignified and loving,” Kidman said.

“I’m very grateful that I had such a good father,to see me through that time,because it put me in good stead for trusting again the next time I fell in love,” the actress added.

Kidman stated that during her childhood she was always close to her mother and did not quite listen to her dad’s advice then. But today she actually looks forward to her dad’s insight who is a psychiatrist by profession.

“The greatest thing he ever told me was that,as you go through life,you can’t expect someone else to take care of you,only you can take care of yourself. That was a very important lesson for me to learn,” Kidman added.
