The Tree of Knowledge”,a creation of Project M,which is a joint partnership of designer Madhu Jain and actor-model Milind Soman has been given the rare honor to be exhibited during the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games,2010. The rich textile and ornate traditional crafts will be showcased under the category Fabric of India Segment,comprising a time chunk of 9-10 minutes of the 50 minute event.
The unique fabrics to be highlighted in the segment will be sourced directly from the weavers and craftsmen of Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal. So,viewers would get a glimpse of the vibrant and colorful motifs of Kalamkari as well as the finely woven kantha work.
The base fabric used has been carefully created using a combination of bamboo fibre and silk. The inspiration behind the Tree of Knowledge is derived from the chinar tree of the Kashmir Valley. A total of 300 weavers,500 craftsmen and 200 hand embroidery artisans have together made this project a success.
