Kathak legend Sitara Devi passes away at 94

One of the country’s finest Kathak dancers, Sitara Devi passed away on Tuesday (November 25) at the age of 94.

At the age of 94, Kathak queen Sitaradevi breathed her last in city based Jaslok hospital where she was admitted. The veteran artist passed away at 1.30 am on early Tuesday morning, confirmed the hospital sources.

Sitara Devi was first married to director K Asif of Mughal-e-Azam fame and later to Pratap Barot.

She has bagged honours like India Lifetime Achievement Award in 2011 for her immense contribution to the classical dance genre for six decades.

The 94-year-old Sitara Devi was an eminent Kathak dancer. In her early career, she has acted in a number of Hindi movies in which she mostly did dancing roles. However, she stopped accepting film offer in the Sixties as she believed that it was affecting her dance.
She was know for her passion for dancer and joy for life.
