He is a stranger to the world of Bollywood but American singer Richard Marx is aware of actress Shilpa Shetty and hopes to catch up with more of B-town during his short stay in India.
Marx, the voice behind international hits like ‘Right Here Waiting’ and ‘Hazard’,is on his second visit to India. The artiste will perform along with Backstreet Boys at the Rock In India festival here tonight.
“I am a complete stranger to India and its films but I am aware of the music of ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ and actress Shilpa Shetty who is talked about a lot in the American media. Hopefully I will learn more about it,” said Marx.
“I wish I had come soon as and had more time to explore the country. Frankly,I didn’t knew I was so popular here. I would love to come back here and perform every year or two with my band,” he added.

From giving background vocals to becoming one of the most sought after soloists in the music world,Marx feels his rise to the top is worth all the effort.
“It’s better than I ever imagined and worth all the effort. At times though I feel I never had the time to take a deep breath and take a look at what I achieved as I was always working,” the singer told PTI.
“I got to sing on many hits for many different artists, and every session was fun. I learned from them, struck up relationships and they ended up playing on my own records, and still do to this day,” he added.
The 46-year-old singer also shared his thoughts on his most memorable hit ‘Right Here Waiting’ and the story behind the song.
“I wrote the song for my wife Cynthia who was in South Africa shooting for a film in South Africa. We were not married then and I wanted to meet her because I had not seen her for a few months. But my visa application was rejected and when I came back I wrote this song which was more of a letter from me to her,” Marx said.
“It was the fastest song I wrote,in barely 20 minutes. And this was the time when there was no Skype and Social networking so I had to ship the track to her. The song was very personal and was not intended to go public. But my friends pursued me to record it and now when I see how it has touched the lives of so many people I feel very happy,” he added.
His concert will see him playing hits but will be predominantly dominated by rock songs with only a ballad or two and a few new songs for his fans.
Marx said he will be recording a new album with Canadian country music star George Canyon after his India tour which will culminate in Benagaluru on February 22.
