Former Miss India Gul Panag had a too close encounter with North Indian men during the Delhi Half Marathon on Sunday, when she had turned up to participate in the event. The actress who was among the 30,000 runners participating in the half marathon alleged that she had been touched inappropriately by men several times.
The actress put the blame squarely on the city. She said,”Delhi men won’t let go of any opportunity to eve tease or behave indecently. The people’s mindset has not changed despite hosting a mega event like Commonwealth Games in October and it is definitely not an ideal place for women.”
“I had thought that Delhi would have undergone a change in its attitude towards women in the seven years that I have been away but it continues to be unsafe,” she added.
Panag claimed that it’s more of a mindset issue. She said,”I am not sure if they knew who I was but the fact that they misbehaved shows the attitude of the men in the city which needs to change drastically.
Gul did not go in for a formal complaint though. The actress realised the futility of filing a complaint as cannot recognise the offenders. She did feel that no matter what the security, certain decorum is expected from participants.
