“I went international and then made it to Bollywood. I have nothing against the film industry, even my younger sister Sonali (Raut) does acting too. I just feel it is great to see the designer’s supporting the models,” Ujjwala said on the sidelines of Lakme Fashion Week.

Modelling has often been seen as a stepping stone to having a career in Bollywood. Ujjwala said opting a career in films after modelling is the most easy way to be in showbiz

“It just that Bollywood is something that everyone wants to do after modelling. So if you don’t really go international and if you don’t have anything to fall back, the next step has to be Bollywood. It is a great industry, you get noticed a lot ,” said the supermodel, who is also a mother to a nine-year-old girl.

Ujjwala said with all her modelling experience, she feels it is time for her to give back to the industry and would love to do something to mentor young models as there is a lot of scope for nurturing young talents here.

“I am in talks for something. It was brought to my attention last week. There is a lot of room here for grooming. I was fortunate enough to learn from the best in the business in India and abroad. Modelling is not just about dressing up. It is about how you talk, how you look how you carry yourself. How patient you are . It is about a lot of waiting,” Ujjwala said.

Opening the show with her trademark white mirror work swimwear, the designer moved on to a white corset sheath and jacket then to her popular kurtis with leather and mirror work orange pants.

Minis came in the shades of yellow and green with mirror work. There was a cut out gown too.

Playing cleverly with hand knitted insets, the designer placed them on one-shoulder gowns, sleeves and even on a kaftan. The sharply cut maroon and bottle green sequined blazer with jeans were a great brunch wear choice.

“The collection takes its inspiration from street of any riviera in the world… you could be in Goa, Maldives, Cannes or Rome. There are a lot of hats, trousers and embroidered leggings. There are a lot of Indian elements used on leather too,” Jaising said after her show.

The gowns, which is designer’s specialty, had deep plunging necklines and hip-high slits.

Ujjwala thanked the designer for “choosing” her to be the showstopper.
